Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I hope your fall semesters/quarters have been successful and productive! I’d like to announce two upcoming saxophone events at the University of West Georgia. Our 8th annual UWG Saxophone Symposium, open to middle school, junior high, and high school saxophonists, will be held from Thursday, March 29-March 31. The Symposium will include master classes, repertoire class, a concert by the UWG Saxophone Quartet, a faculty recital with myself and Linda Li-Bleuel, a Symposium saxophone ensemble for all participating students, and the Symposium saxophone orchestra, combining the Symposium ensemble and the UWG Saxophone Ensemble.
We are pleased to offer the 1st annual UWG Saxophone Workshop from Monday, June 18-Saturday, June 23. The workshop faculty will include Dr. Rhett Bender, Professor of Saxophone at Southern Oregon University, Ms. Patti Martin, Director of Bands at Temple, GA Middle School, Dr. Scott Turpen, Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at the University of Wyoming, and myself. The workshop will feature saxophone fundamentals classes, master classes, jazz improvisation classes, saxophone quartets, and a large saxophone ensemble. Participants will be featured on a special performance at Carrollton’s Tanner Medical Center as a part of its Harmony for Healing program, and will perform a final concert on the UWG campus. Residential and day camp formats will be available.
More information on the Symposium and Workshop will be posted in January. I hope that you will share this information with your students and encourage them to consider participating.
Best wishes for a great holiday season!
John
