Saxophone music with jazz influence

Hello,

I am in a saxophone repertoire class taught by Dr. Vanessa Sielert at the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton School of Music. My project for the rest of the semester is to research 25 works for saxophone that would ideally be performed in a classical recital setting but with jazz influence in the music. The jazz infulence I am specifically after is structured improvisation- that is improvisation based on chord changes as opposed to free improvisation. I am already familiar with the Phil Woods Sonata as well as his Quartet.

If anyone knows of any music or composers to research I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Samuel

Jazz influenced classical repertoire

I would highly recommend Victor Morosco's Blue Caprice. It is divided into about 14 different sections with each one being influenced by a different style of jazz. It is a wonderful piece.  He has some other works you could look into, but I would say Blue Caprice is his most famous work. Hope this helps. Good luck with your class!
