Saxophone Quartet music for Middle School Students

Hello everyone, I am looking to find some quality saxophone quartet pieces in a variety of styles for students in grades 6-8. Students in my school district where I teach begin instruments in grade 5, so it would have to be accessible for students who have played for 2-3 years. It would also have to be for AATB instrumentation. I have some very motivated students and would love to get them started working and listening to this genre. Thanks in advance for your help, John

The 10 Quartets arranged by Larry Teal are a valuable resource to learn style and balance. Composers presented are Bach, Beethoven, Boccherini, Haydn, Kuhlau, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov, Schumann, and Tchaikovsky. Best regards, Thomas Liley

Those 10 quartets are very good. I also have AATB arrangements of Phantom of the Opera (cheesy) and the slow section of Shostakovich's String quartet no. 8 (definitely not cheesy) that I think junior high-schoolers could handle. I also have about 10 Bach chorales. They're in SATB, but it would be easy enough for your or me to transpose the soprano part (done in Finale). If you'd like them, email me at email and I'll see if I can dig them up.

Don't forget Sigurd Rascher and Lee Patrick's Five Centuries for Saxophone Quartet AATB, and just as it says, a wide range of styles suitable for the young quartet.

Watchdogmusic.com is a great site for graded ensemble and solo music. Have used a ton of their arrangments and enjoyed them all...
