[B][CENTER]University of Missouri School of Music Notice of Faculty Vacancy Assistant Professor, Tenure Track Director of Jazz Performance Studies[/CENTER][/B] Responsibilities: Conduct jazz big bands, coach jazz combos, and teach jazz courses including improvisation, arranging, and methods. Coordinate the jazz performance studies area, which includes a jazz certificate (for music majors) and jazz minor (for non-music majors). Supervise a graduate teaching assistant in the jazz area. Lead jazz band performances regularly on campus, in the community, and throughout the region. Organize an annual one-day high school jazz festival. Consult and collaborate appropriately with faculty in other areas, and with a nationally recognized jazz presenting and educational organization, based in Columbia. Develop a distinguished record of creative achievement as a jazz performer and/or director in keeping with the University of Missouri’s promotion and tenure standards. Provide appropriate service to the School and the University. Qualifications: Doctorate in jazz performance strongly preferred. Master’s degree in jazz performance together with significant and commensurate professional experience considered. Successful teaching record and demonstrable success in jazz direction at the college or university level required. Advanced performance skills in an appropriate instrumental area required. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills, and a commitment to diversity required. Rank/Salary: Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Music at the University The School of Music comprises 36 full-time faculty members and 225 music majors, offers a full range of bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, and includes a comprehensive ensemble program. Music education degrees, bachelor’s through doctorate, are conferred in collaboration with the College of Education’s Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum. MU is the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River and the largest of the four institutions in the University of Missouri System. It is a Doctoral/Research Extensive institution and has a student body of over 30,000 students.
