COLUMBUS STATE UNIVERSITY -- Director of Jazz Studies, Assistant Professor, tenure-track in jazz performance, jazz education, and music theory. Teaching responsibilities include directing student big band and small jazz groups and teaching improvisation, jazz keyboard skills, and classroom theory to undergraduate music majors. Duties also include recruiting for the jazz area and assisting in initiation of a new B.M. in Performance with Emphasis in Jazz Studies. Minimum qualifications include a completed doctorate and college teaching experience are preferred. The successful candidate will be an accomplished instrumentalist with strong keyboard skills. A successful criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment. Start Date: 8/1/2009. Applications received by March 15, 2009 will be assured full consideration. Application should include a letter of application, curriculum vitae (including a list of references), graduate school transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and a recording demonstrating the candidate's own playing abilities as well as examples of student ensemble performances under the candidate's direction (if possible).
