Music Department Job Description LECTURER/AFFILIATE ARTIST – SAXOPHONE Part-time/Non-Tenure Track POSITION: Lecturer/Affiliate Artist – Saxophone (part-time/non-tenure track) NOTICE DATE: March 1, 2008 CLOSING DATE: Processing of applications will begin on April 1, 2008, and continue until the position is filled. POSITION AVAILABLE: September 1, 2008 RANK AND WAGES: Lecturer [part-time – studio instruction, saxophone ensemble(s)] Wages (0708): $43/hr studio; additional compensation for travel and chamber music coaching [saxophone quartet(s)]; $516/ensemble/term RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Teach classical and jazz sax performance, literature and pedagogy at the undergraduate level. 2. Coach saxophone quartet(s) as required. 3. Play in faculty jazz ensembles (additional compensation) 4. Recruit saxophone students. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred. • Demonstrated success as a teacher of saxophone in studio and laboratory settings at the college level. • Demonstrated success as a saxophone performer in solo, chamber, orchestral, and jazz settings. • Enthusiasm for and demonstrated ability in recruitment of saxophone students. The Department of Music at PLU has 15 full-time and over 40 part-time faculty serving 160 music majors and over 700 students total each year. The department supports resident faculty ensembles including Camas Winds, Regency Strings, Lyric Brass and Regency Jazz ensembles. Performances and teaching takes place in the Mary Baker Russell Music Center which includes Lagerquist Concert Hall, the latter among the finest acoustical venues in the region. Student ensembles, from instrumental to vocal, from classical to jazz, from opera to world music, perform regularly. Guest and faculty artists, in ensemble and as soloists, further enrich the wide range of educational and performance experiences the department offers the campus and community.
