Assistantships are usually renewable for one additional year for master’s students and two additional years for doctoral students.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS:  The University of Kentucky offers both masters and doctoral degrees in music performance, instrumental and choral conducting, music education, music composition, musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory, and the master’s degree in music therapy.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES:  In congruence with the UK School of Music’s mission to serve as the center for musical study and performance for the entire Commonwealth, we provide over 200 musical events each year right on campus, in the heart of the community. From solo and chamber music recitals to performing major large ensemble works and fully staged operas, our School offers something for everyone, and all showcasing the efforts of our incredibly talented students and world-class faculty.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY, THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC, LEXINGTON, AND THE BLUEGRASS:  The University of Kentucky has about 30,000 students on its Lexington campus and Medical Center. With an 8-1 student to teacher ratio, the School of Music provides personal attention with small classes and much individual instruction, while maintaining all the advantages and resources of a major university.  An internationally renowned teaching and performing faculty provides the basic instruction for all students.  This faculty consists of 47 full-time members, complemented by part-time instructors and teaching assistants.  Lexington, the heart of the Bluegrass, is known for its beautiful scenery, horse farms, thriving economy, planned growth, and cultural heritage.  Combined with the artistic and intellectual community of the University of Kentucky, Lexington has become a mecca for college and career.
