Wind Band

I am fortunate to have the opportunity in the upcoming spring to solo on alto saxophone with a local university's wind ensemble. While this is a great opportunity, the conductor and I are having issues selecting a piece. The band consists of around 50-60 young members with standard instrumentation. They are a fabulous group of musicians although most of the standard rep. is out due to the level of difficulty. The conductor and I are looking for something in the jazz/contemporary realm. I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions of literature. Thank you for your assistance. email

Would John Williams's "Escapades" be possible for them?

Introduction and Samba by Maurice Whitney would probably work perfectly for what you need.
