2012 NASA Jazz Saxophone Competition

JERSEY CITY, NJ, August 27, 2011 The North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) is pleased to announce their 2012 Jazz Saxophone Competitions. Continuing a twenty-year tradition, NASA’s Jazz Saxophone Competition, is open to contestants age 18-26. There are three cash prizes of $1,500, $1,000, and $750. NASA has also created a second, brand new competition, the NASA Young Jazz Artist Competition. The Young Jazz Artist Competition is open to students age 15-19, who are enrolled in a high school or grade 9-12 equivalent (E.g. academy, home school, etc.). There are three cash prizes of $750, $500, and $250. The winners of both competitions will perform on a winner’s recital as part of NASA’s 2012 Biennial Conference, to be held at Arizona State University. According to Brad Leali, Jazz Saxophone Professor at the University of North Texas, and NASA’s Jazz Coordinator, “this exciting new competition has been developed to showcase some of the finest talent at the high school level. The high school competition is an avenue where we are able to support and encourage their development towards excellence in jazz.” The application and recording submission deadline is December 15, 2011. All contestants must be current members of the North American Saxophone Alliance. National jazz artist/educators will adjudicate the competition's live performance round.
