Escaich Le Bal

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong spot. I didn't feel that it was quite appropriate for anywhere else. My quartet is in a minor bind. We need to locate several original copies of all of the pieces we are playing for Fischoff. So far, we've been able to find everything, with the exception of Thierry Escaich's Le Bal. I recall having a hard time finding it originally, but now the situation is compounded. In corresponding with Billaudot, it seems as if the publisher is currently out of stock. While we have some leads on ordering the music, we're putting out a call to all of our friends here. If anyone has a copy of the score that they'd be willing to lone out through the middle of May, we'd be deeply indebted to you. Get in touch with me here or through my email address: email.

I find it totally bogus for a modern publisher to be out of stock of a 5 year old piece of music. With today's print-on-demand technologies, there is no reason for any publisher to have material unavailable on demand. These old school publishers don't seem to have a clue  on how to work in today's environment. They seem to think all they need do is have a web presence and they're up to date and modern. I find Billaudot to be a perfect case in point. Visiting their web site, the web design makes it very difficult to browse or even actually find material on the site. They don't even list all of their composers in the composer page. :( And if someone thinks of viewing their full list of sax works (listing 715 works), it takes no less then 5 clicks to navigate to a browse page for all their saxophone music, if you can figure out how to get there. (There's a web design rule which states that a visitor should be able to get to wanted information within 3 clicks) Sorry for the rant, Good luck on your search. Bernard Savoie

With you all the way on your "rant," Bernard. Further to the poor web design issues, I cannot understand why music is ever printed at all any more, or shipped to bricks and mortar stores. There is one visionary publisher that provides a link to the score with audio files available, and you just order up a link that allows you to print the music for yourself as many times as you paid for it. I bought a transcription of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in G minor for sax quartet that way. The score and two copies of each part came in at about 10 bucks and went into rehearsal the same day I searched for it!

Where, pray tell, can we find this visionary publisher, Reedguy? I'm tired of waiting for my local bricks and mortar to order pieces of music for me.
