Chris Beaty is Associate Professor of Saxophone at Texas A&M University-Commerce, teaching applied saxophone lessons, coaching quartets and conducting the saxophone choir. Additionally, he directs Jazz Ensemble I and teaches courses in jazz improvisation, pedagogy and history. He holds degrees from the University of Memphis (DMA-saxophone performance), University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (MM-saxophone performance) and Austin Peay State University (BS-music education).  Some career highlights include being selected as a 2011 Fulbright Teaching Scholar to Latvia and the release of his first solo jazz CD (Sax in Santa Fe) in 2009 hailed by the Santa Fe Jazz Examiner who stated, “selections are arranged and performed in a hip, contemporary sounding jazz groove…his lyrical side shines.” His recent performances include the World Saxophone Congress in Scotland, US Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, North American Saxophone Alliance conferences in Illinois, Oklahoma & Texas, and concerto performances in Memphis and Commerce,

Ensemble Bio: The Texas A&M University-Commerce Faculty Woodwind Trio members are Dr. Julee Kim Walker, Assistant Professor of Flute, Dr. Mary Alice Druhan, Professor of Clarinet, and Dr. Chris Beaty, Associate Professor of Saxophone.  They have been performing together since 2013 and have actively commissioned several new compositions.  In 2014, they were selected to perform at the NASA Biennial National Conference at the University of Illinois.  Since then, they have performed several concerts and held masterclasses at universities throughout Texas & Illinois.
