Bio: Specialist Mark Wallace is a saxophone instrumentalist with the 249th Army Band of the West Virginia National Guard. As a member of the 249th, he performs with the ceremonial, concert, and brass bands. When not serving with his unit, Mr. Wallace resides in Columbus, Ohio where is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts at The Ohio State University under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Rene Torres. Previously he earned the Master of Music from Youngstown State University where he studied with Dr. James Umble, and the Bachelors of Music and Music Education from Ohio State where he studied with Mr. Jim Hill. Mr. Wallace is an active educator and musician, and has performed with the Ohio Light Opera pit orchestra, the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared as a soloist with the Sinclair Community College Concert Band.
Ensemble Bio: Duo 349 consists of Ohio-based saxophonists Frankie Wantuch and Mark Wallace. Both are graduate students of Dr. Michael Rene Torres at The Ohio State University where they are masters and doctoral students, respectively. Ms. Wantuch is a native of the Cincinnati area and pursued her undergraduate education at Ohio University, while Mr. Wallace hails from the Dayton area and earned his bachelors degrees from Ohio State, and earned the master of music from Youngstown State University. Both saxophonists are Army musicians - Specialist Wantuch a Reservist with the 100th Army Band, Ft. Knox, KY, and Specialist Wallace a National Guardsman with the 249th Army Band, West Virginia National Guard. Both have had additional studies with Staff Sergeant Geoffrey Pennington at the U.S. Army School of Music, Virginia Beach, VA.
