Joel Ferst, is an advocate for music education and the advancement of music and is a member of cNAFME  and has worked as a camp counselor at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

His research interests include the use of music as a social platform for change, the use of nontraditional performance standards and their effect in audience engagement, and the use of syntax and its use in the compositions of music in different languages.

Joel is currently a senior at Florida State University earning his Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and a specialization in music entrepreneurship. Joel's teachers include Geoffrey Deibel, Katherine Weintraub, and Martin Wilkes, and he has studied jazz with Bill Kennedy. Joel has played in masterclasses or had other private training with Timothy McAllsiter, Zachary Schemon, Arno Bornkamp, Jonathan Hulting-Cohen, Phillip Pierk, Kenneth Radnofsky, Jennifer Bill, the MANA Quartet, and Patrick Meighan.

Ensemble Bio: The Midnight Quartet, is an undergraduate saxophone quartet at Florida State University being coached by Dr. Geoffrey Deibel. The quartet seeks to engage audiences in interactive performances and has performaned and worked with high schools in the local area. The group consists of Joel Ferst, Soprano Saxophone, Jenny Hesoun, Alto Saxophone, Brain Hanson, Tenor Saxophone, and Caleb Miller, Baritone Saxophone.
