Bio: James Barrera has been active as a performer and educator in the Southern California area for the past 20 years. He is a regular performer and clinician through out the Los Angeles area. James was a student of Leo Potts, known for his innovative methods teaching wind pedagogy, and world renowned virtuoso Otis Murphy. He is a founding member of the New LA Saxophone Quartet, and one half of the ALLOY Wind Duo. In 2012 he played host to the NASA Region II Conference at CSU Long Beach. He has been a judge for the MTNA National Senior/Young Artist Competition, and recently gathered 20 saxophonists to form the California Saxophone Choir. James is on the Faculty of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at at CSU Long Beach and the Orange County School of the Arts. He holds degrees from CSULB and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
