Bio:

Central Coast Saxophone Quartet is a new saxophone chamber ensemble based in San Luis Obispo, CA. Individually, the members are renowned classical and/or jazz performers, and collectively, have chosen to band together to premiere new works by the members of the ensemble. Dr. Laura Kramer is a lecturer at California Polytechnic State University, teaching saxophone, music theory, and composition. Ron McCarley is the director of jazz studies at Cuesta College. Dave Becker teaches applied saxophone and jazz at both Cal Poly and Cuesta College, and, at Allan Hancock College, teaches theory, recording arts, electronic music and music appreciation. Dr. Arthur White is an Eastman and Jody Jazz saxophone artist, and the director of jazz studies at Cal Poly.

Arthur White

Tenor Saxophone

Bio: Dr. Arthur White is an Eastman and Jody Jazz saxophone artist, and the director of jazz studies at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Dr. White produced eleven albums for university big bands at the University of Missouri and Northeastern State University with world class musicians like Mike Mainieri, Bob Sheppard, Jimmy Greene, Randy Brecker, and Bobby Watson, among others. His debut album, when you find it, is available on ARC Records. His first long form composition, Pictures of the Heartland, featuring Joe Locke and Peter Erskine, was given its world premiere in October 2019.

Laura Kramer

Soprano Saxophone

Bio:

Laura Kramer is a lecturer at California Polytechnic State University, teaching saxophone, music theory, and composition. Dr. Kramer is a founding member of the Los Angeles-based Noir Quartet. She has performed her original saxophone works at various national concerts, including the CSU Fullerton New Music Festival, NASA conferences, What’s Next? ensemble concerts and for the Midwest Composers Symposium. She performed on Presidio Brass’ “Rhapsody in Brass” album. In addition, she has commissioned new saxophone works by Jordan Nelson, David Werfelmann and Natalie Williams. Dr. Kramer is a graduate of West Chester University (BM), Indiana University (MM), and the University of Southern California (DMA, Composition).



Ron McCarley

Bio:

Ron McCarley, director of jazz studies at Cuesta College, is a graduate of CalArts and Westmont College. Before teaching at Cuesta, Ron was directing professional and collegiate big bands and small groups in the Santa Barbara area. He has had many students go on to successful music careers and many years of experience in jazz performance and education. As a performer, he doubles on all saxophones, flute and other woodwinds and plays a wide variety of music throughout Southern California.



Dave Becker

Baritone Saxophone

Bio:

Dave Becker teaches applied saxophone and jazz at both Cal Poly and Cuesta College, and, at Allan Hancock College, teaches theory, recording arts, electronic music and music appreciation. Becker has also been a clinician at the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band Camp and other camps and schools throughout Florida and along the West Coast. He has performed with artists including Wayne Bergeron, Eric Marienthal, Sal Lozano, Pete Christlieb, Gordon Goodwin, Bobby Shew, Andy Martin, Bernie Dresel, Bob McChesney, Dianne Schuur, Ernie Watts, and numerous others. His degrees (BM, MM) are from the University of Florida.
