Bio:

My name is Johnny Selmer, and I am a chamber musician and music teacher from San Jose, CA. My passions and interests include playing classical saxophone, the new  music genre, researching saxophone history, and dogs. I actively play with the Zelos Saxophone Quartet in both regular public performances and yearly outreach tours. We have won several competitions as an ensemble, including the Grand Prize for Chamber Music at the 2018 Frances Walton Competition in Seattle, WA and the 2017-2018 California State and southwest Regional MTNA Competitions.

I perform on historic instruments and mouthpieces designed to the acoustical specifications of the saxophone’s inventor, Adolphe Sax. Here are my setups:

Alto:

  • 1940 Buescher Aristocrat (290XXX, modified by MusicMedic)

  • MANA Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece

  • Solid-Silver Ishimori Ligature

Soprano:

  • 1950s Buescher True-Tone (no serial #, modified by Frank Diaz)

  • Buescher Oval-stamp Mouthpiece

  • Gold-Plated Ishimori Ligature
