Hailing from the shores of West Michigan, Jordan VanHemert is a versatile performer, composer, and educator. Jordan is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-­Champaign, where he studies with Chip McNeill and Debra Richtmeyer. An active part of the Jazz Division, Mr. VanHemert can be seen performing in many University of Illinois jazz ensembles, including the Chip Stephens combo, as the lead tenor saxophonist with Jazz II, baritone saxophonist with the Latin Jazz ensemble, and as the lead alto saxophonist with the Concert Jazz Band. Mr. VanHemert holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Michigan University. 

Jordan’s additional mentors include J. Michael Holmes, Ronald Bridgewater, John Nichol, Rob Smith, Andrew Bishop, and Ellen Rowe.
