Bio: Saxophonist Kate von Bernthal is a performer and composer from metro-Detroit, Michigan whose performing and teaching career has taken her throughout the US and abroad. von Bernthal has given global and local premeires of numerous new works, such as the west coast premiere of Stacy Garrop's alto saxophone concerto Quicksilver with the University of Oregon wind ensemble. A founding member of Girlnoise, an all women mixed chamber ensemble, von Bernthal has participated in the commission and premiere of several new chamber works by rising star composers such as Annika Socolofsky, Tanner Porter, and Grey Grant. von Bernthal holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Oregon where she studied under Idit Shner and held a Graduate Teaching Fellowship. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan where she studied under Donald Sinta and Timothy McAllister.
